Meeting of the States Parties to the Law of the Sea Convention

The seventeenth meeting of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea will take place June 14 and June 18-22 at UN Headquarters in New York. Meeting documents issued to date, including the provisional agenda, can be found here. One of the major items on the agenda is the election of members of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf. This will be the third election of the Commission's 21 members (the first election having been held in 1997); each member serves a five-year term. In addition to the election, the meeting is expected to focus on administrative and budgetary issues pertaining to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.
