Belize and Guatemala Agree to Send Border Dispute to the International Court of Justice
On Monday, at the headquarters of the Organization of American States, Belize and Guatemala signed a compromis that will send their longstanding border dispute to the International Court of Justice for resolution once the agreement is approved by simultaneous referenda in both countries. (OAS press release here; news reports here, here, and here; ASIL Insight from December 2000 regarding the dispute here.) Both the United Kingdom and the United States issued statements (here and here) praising the agreement.
