Election of ICJ Judges (Final Ballot)

I have been away from my desk but just returned to hear the announcement that Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf (Somalia) was elected to the fifth and final seat up for election. He joins Ronny Abraham (France), Awn Shawkat Al-Khasawneh (Jordan), Antônio Augusto Cançado Trindade (Brazil), and Christopher Greenwood (United Kingdom), all of whom were elected earlier today on the first ballot. I will post again later with details on the final ballot. Curricula vitae of the newly elected (or re-elected) judges can be found here.

UPDATE: The results of the fourth and final ballot were: Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf (Somalia) with 116 votes; Miriam Defensor-Santiago (Philippines) with 52 votes; and Maurice Kamto (Cameroon) with 21 votes. The fourth ballot was delayed as a result of a debate on voting procedure (see the UN meeting report here).
