UN: General Assembly Requests ICJ Advisory Opinion on Kosovo

The General Assembly today requested that the International Court of Justice issue an advisory opinion on the legality of Kosovo's declaration of independence. The vote was 77 in favor, 6 opposed, and 74 abstentions. The United States voted against the resolution. The specific question referred to the Court was: "Is the unilateral declaration of independence by the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government of Kosovo in accordance with international law?"
