Judgment: Ahmadou Sadio Diallo (Preliminary Objections)

Today, the International Court of Justice rendered its judgment on the respondent's preliminary objections in the case of Ahmadou Sadio Diallo (Republic of Guinea v. Democratic Republic of the Congo). Unanimously, the Court found the application admissible "in so far as it concerns protection of Mr. Diallo’s rights as an individual." By fourteen votes to one, the Court found the application admissible "in so far as it concerns protection of Mr. Diallo’s direct rights as associé in Africom-Zaire and Africontainers-Zaire." By fourteen votes to one, the court found the application inadmissible "in so far as it concerns protection of Mr. Diallo in respect of alleged violations of rights of Africom-Zaire and Africontainers-Zaire."
